how to get him to drink from a babycup?

Hi, I hope anyone here knows what I am talking about and has some good ideas for me. My little man (7 months) refuses to take a bottle or a training cup for babes.... He drinks out of bottles that are ment for bikers or out of a normal cup for adults. But of course when we go out this is not that easy. I nurse him and want to keep on nursing, so he has this option, too. But I am wondering if there isn't a way or a trick to get him to use a babycup?

I have a similiar problem. My son (10 months) takes a bottle all right, but no sippy cups. Oddly, he will drink an entire juice box from a straw... but no sippy cup! I tried putting his favorites in the cup, but he takes a sip and hates it.

How old are they when they should move from bottle to sippy cup?

I was going to suggest the type of sippy cup that has the straw that pops out?
Still spill proof :) we take one most everywhere.
The stainless are a great option too.
I switched my daughter over from a bottle at about a year, some people go a lot longer - it's what you feel is best for the kiddo.

i know how hard it can be!! breastfed babies don't take to bottles very kindly hehe. my daughter has never taken a bottle in her life. she would sooner starve than take a bottle. now that she is older (13 months) she is using a sippy cup but even then its few and far between because she stlil nurses all day and night so there hasn't really been a need..but its definitely nice when i need to be away for a little bit and she doesn't put up a fight with dad over the cups.

breastmilk is so amazing! it provides baby with all it needs. breastfed babies shouldn't have more than 3-4 ounces a day because they confuse it with being full. so i guess my question is are you giving a cup for entertainment while you are out, so that your babe has something to do? or are you giving it because you think your babe needs it or is supposed to have it? bc if you are giving it for entertainment i totally hear that! lol i know that i sometimes give my wee one a sippy cup of water in the car bc i know it entertains her....but i just wanted to make sure you didn't think your baby needed it, because he doesn't :D your milk is perfect and is providing him with exactly what he needs!! another thing is that he is old enough to know the difference between a cup and you and im sure that he prefers you!!

have you tried a sigg or kleen kanteen sippy cup? they are made like sports bottles (although i think maybe the kleen kanteen uses an avent sippy spout so maybe that wont work?)
this website has lots of kids bottles - www.reusablebags.com/
my daughter really likes the take n toss (and they are bpa free too!) - www.amazon.com/First-Year.../B00005BN7V
they aren't completely spill proof like it says buuuut its a lot easier for babe to get anything out of it! some sippy cups are really hard to drink out of!!

but it definitely IS easier to just nurse :p at least thats what i prefer even at 13 months!

My Sam would never take a bottle and started drinking out of a regular cup when he was maybe eight months old or so. I did try a sippy cup because I thought it would be less mess, but he liked to shake them and make rain with them so it was actually better to just hold the regular cup and let him drink from it. He never really used a sippy cup or a bottle. He drinks ourtof regular cups now, has done this on his own for quite a while, and he is 21 months old. We just bought a bunch of small cups and glasses and started giving him tiny amounts of water in them. When he got proficient with handling them, we started giving him juice or milk or whatever he wanted. He still spills but not often.

I don't think there's any reason to use a sippy cup except to contain the mess. When you're out and about, will she go for just letting you hold a regular cup and share with her? Sam would also drink from a regular bottle--that is like a water bottle or whatever--so we could take a drink that we could put the lid back on between sips.

Wow. I am sooo glad to see that more mom's had that "problem" with their babies. I tried the cups with the straws already. He does not use it. He never took a bottle. He refuses to get anything in his mouth that feels soft. But he drinks out of those biker bottles. And with a little help he can drink out of my teacup. But I guess I will just try again and again with his little cup and keep on giving him the biker bottles :-)

Thank you to all of you!

Keep trying with the straws, it took my daughter a couple of months to get it but she loved playing with them in the interim.

One thing I do is carry around a small plastic cup everywhere and just put a very small amount in the bottom so she came do it herself, when she is done with that bit them I put in a little more. She didn't want to use a sippy cup until she began day care and saw other kids using them. Don't push it but offer reguarly.

7 months may be a bit early for your guy to want to hold his own cup ... i'm pretty sure abigail was not really into the solo sippy thing until 9 months, but we kept offering and showing her how until she wanted to do it herself.
