persistent drooling

I have an almost 5 year old who still drools quite a bit. I know this can be associated with very large adnoids/tonsils of which he has both. They are VERY large and being watched by an ENT, but we are trying to avoid an unnecessary surgery if at all possible. Has anyone else had to deal with this problem? I worry that my son will enter Kindergarten next year still drooling on his papers and possibly get teased.
thanks!

Tonsils and adnoids used to be regularly removed but are not anymore. I had mine out when I was 6 years old. My mom said I was sick a lot before that time. Some people just need them removed. I don't have any other experience with this but if it is a concern already you might consider removing them.

    Good luck! :-)

they kept trying to take mine out when i was a kid and i absolutely refused. i'm glad they let me have some input. i'm glad my body is intact. they were concerned that i was getting a lot of colds and snoring when i slept. believe it or not, when i was in my late 20s and my last roommate with a cat moved out, it was the first extended period of time in my life i'd lived cat free. it took over a year for me to notice the "colds" were gone. and after that time apart from cats, when i went around them again, a very severe allergic reaction was obvious and has been so ever since. so it could be something environmental... dust, whatever. hope you find a solution soon.

Is disheartening to think that our society is not yet compassionate enough that this teasing would not occur. I extend my sincere empathies to you.

As a mechanical engineer, who thinks "outside the box", I will offer an idea:

What about teaching your son to dispense his droolings through a straw into a cup (like a sport mug that has built in straws or similar). He can then empty the cup after an hour or so.. and start the process again.

The other kid's might not find it "weird" or whatever. Perhaps you can let the teacher know about this so the teacher helps out in his needs.

If you decide to try it out..please let me know how it went!

I know of a talented and successful japanese architect who drools .. It's kinda peculiar but I think he is a fabulous person.. and he seems happy and everything..

    Cheers!

Don't know what your situation is but maybe you could just not send him to school? It seems kind of hard on a child to undergo major surgery just to fit in, but that does seem to be the reality of school for kids.
